Grant Co. Sheriff's Dept.
Justin B. Walker (16, Moses Lake) driving a 1982 Ford pickup truck along with his passenger, Phillip T. Sandberg (17, Moses Lake), was stopped southbound on Stratford Road awaiting oncoming traffic so that he could make a left hand turn onto Road 5.9 NE.
Delbert L. Surface (34, Moses Lake) was southbound on Stratford Road and failed to notice the Walker vehicle was stopped waiting to turn left. Surface, driving his 1996 Jeep Cherokee, struck Walker from behind. Witnesses described seeing the Surface vehicle “jump” into the air after striking Walker’s vehicle from behind cross over into the northbound lane striking a third vehicle driven by 19-year old Amanda M. Weaver (Wilson Creek) a 1990 Ford Thunderbird. Weaver’s vehicle then went into the north side ditch of Stratford Road.
Surface and Weaver were transported by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries. Walker did not complain of any injury and his passenger, (Sandberg) treated at the scene, complained of a slight injury to his mouth and was released.
