UPDATE> 'Several' grenades found under land mine in South Hill park

SPOKANE – Investigators tell KREM 2 News they found 'several' grenades beneath a land mine near Liberty Park on Spokane's South Hill. Tests are now underway to determine whether the mine or the grenades were capable of exploding.

The discovery was made while firefighters put out a brush fire in the park. The mine has been identified as a Claymore mine-- which can be triggered by a trip-wire or other explosives.

The Fairchild Air Force Base bomb squad removed the devices.
