Canadians sweep Coeur d'Alene Ironman 2008

COEUR d'ALENE -- Tom Evans, from British Columbia, is the 2008 Ironman Coeur d'Alene Men's Champion in a time 8:34:22.

That's the 6th fastest time in race history. It's Evans third Ironman title, but his first victory in Coeur d'Alene.

Rounding out the top five men competitors are: Victor Zyemtsev at 8:43:56, Michael Lovato at 8:48:22, Mike Neill at 8:53:09 and Steve Larsen at 8:56:53.

Heather Wurtele is the 2008 Ironman Coeur d'Alene Women's Champion in a time 9:38:28. Spotters around the course say no competitor even came close to catching her.

The next four women's finishers were Heather Gollnick at 9:50:34, Tiina Boman at 9:55:28, Sara Gross at 10:03:45 and Haley Cooper at 10:08:04.

Wurtele's time is the 4th fastest women's race in history. She won the overall age group title in Coeur d'Alene in 2006. This is her first championship as a pro.
