Whitworth grad killed in Afghanistan

SPOKANE -- A 2004 graduate of Whitworth College has been killed while on patrol in Afghanistan. 1st Lt. Forrest Ewens and another soldier died Friday when an improvised explosive device blew up nearby.

25-year-old Forrest Ewens was killed while on patrol Friday in Afghanistan.

Forrest and his twin brother grew up in Addy, WA near Chewelah. Ewens graduated in 2004 with a history degree and participated in the joint Gonzaga/Whitworth ROTC program. He was captain of the Whitworth track team in 2004.

There will be a memorial service tomorrow at 11am outside Cowles Auditorium on the Whitworth campus. Another memorial is planned for Thursday in Gig Harbor, where Ewens' family now lives.
