Twenty-four-year-old Garth M. Flaherty may serve 30 days of his term in community service under the sentence he was given in Whitman County Superior Court.

Flaherty pleaded guilty in an agreement with prosecutors after being charged with first-degree theft and 12 counts of burglary in the stealing of 1,613 pairs of panties, bras, and other women's underwear from Pullman laundry rooms, costing more than $2,000.

In early 2007, police received 12 reports of panty thefts around the Washington State University campus.

Flaherty was arrested March 24th, 2007, after police received a report of a man hanging out in an apartment complex laundry room. Police said they found enough underwear in his bedroom to fill five garbage bags.

Flaherty told investigators he began stealing women's underwear in middle school and the habit continued while he attended the University of Idaho.
