The judge said he believed Jennifer Megan Gaines was in denial about the condition of the apartment.
Prosecutors showed photos of stains on the walls, on carpeting and on the boy's mattress -- along with overflowing litter boxes and shredded carpet.
One neighbor testified she was afraid that the strong urine smell from Gaines' apartment would harm her own children.
And a maintenance worker testified that he had to wear a mask for the first time when he was cleaning Gaines' apartment to rent to a new tenant after she moved out at the end of September.
Gaines admitted she had too many cats when she was cross-examined in court. She was also convicted of an animal neglect charge.
