The Idaho State Police responded to the report of the crash after 9 p.m., which closed that portion of Interstate 90 at mile post 34 near Rose Lake.

As of 1 a.m. the state patrol was diverting freeway traffic east and west via on and off ramps along the freeway to keep traffic moving.

Authorities said the deceased motorist was driving a gray Toyota Scion west in an eastbound lane along the freeway.

The driver of the semi - who was uninjured - told police the motorist suddenly appeared on the freeway before impact occurred.

The Scion's driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
