AG's cracking down on Craigslist prostitution ads

SPOKANE - Even sex sells on Craigslist. The prostitution business on Spokane’s Craigslist is booming.

Attorney Generals are cracking down on ads for prostitution on Craigslist.

KREM 2 News found 36 postings for erotic services in one category alone.  Many ads have quotes for hourly rates and explicit pictures, but a large number are blocked.

Attorney Generals’ offices in 40 states are cracking down on ads for prostitution on Craigslist.  The plan will require anyone posting ads for erotic services to provide a working phone number and pay a fee with a valid credit card.  Craigslist will turn over the information to courts if subpoenaed.    

We emailed several people with postings from Spokane and Seattle to ask if they are worried about the policy changes.

One woman, a mother of two, told us that the extra money she brings in through her Craigslist postings is very helpful in the current economy.

Spokane Police say that tracking down a real person connected with a Craigslist account is difficult.  They hope the new plan will help them crack down on the online prostitution business.
