Teenagers try to kill domestic turkeys with sticks

SPOKANE -- It's not even the holiday season and people in North Spokane are fed up with turkey-- specifically, the turkeys running wild through their neighborhood.

Jeff Bollinger, KREM 2 News

Domestic turkeys have overtaken a neighborhood near Regal & Francis.

Homeowners on the 6900 block of North Regal say the flock of domestic turkeys has become a nuisance-- blocking traffic and loitering and defecating in yards. We counted more than 20 turkeys gathered on one block.

The owner of the turkeys tells KREM 2 News he started with one turkey a few years ago and suddenly their numbers multiplied. He says he's aware of his neighbors' concerns and is asking a friend to round up the birds and take them away.

One day after our initial report, we learned that teenagers were spotted driving around the inundated neighborhoods, swinging sticks at the birds and trying to kill them.

Neighbors say they want the turkeys gone, but they don't want to see them killed. The homeowner with the yard where most of the turkeys hang out says someone will be stopping by on Friday to start rounding up the flocks of birds and taking them elsewhere.
