SPOKANE -- Spokane Public School students finally returned from winter break Tuesday and some parents aren't happy about the decision.

Spokane Public School students returned to class Tuesday.

More than two feet of snow covers sidewalks, so many students were forced to walk in the streets this morning.

Parent Tudy Calvert escorted her children to school to make sure they were safe.

"It's difficult going and it's icy and you're right in the road," she says.

"I don't understand why school was closed yesterday because now we're sending our kids out in it and it's not better," says parent Patrick Brown.

Most schools had their own sidewalks clear before kids arrived. But we found plenty of parents who didn't take any chances and just drove their kids to school.

The school district and City of Spokane are asking homeowners to shovel sidewalks and urging driver to be extra careful around schools.
