Roof collapse destroys 5 Mile Business Park

SPOKANE -- Heavy rain expected later this week could only add to problems with collapsing roofs across the Inland Northwest.

Early Tuesday morning the roof collapsed at the 5 Mile Business Park in North Spokane.

Heavy snow caused the roof to collapse at the 5 Mile Business Park.

That’s near Cedar and Woodside Place, just north of Francis. Firefighters say it appears the snow was never cleared off the roofs.

Up to 2 inches of rain is possible by Thursday and much of that moisture will be absorbed by snow already on roofs and buildings. Eventually, temperatures near 40 degrees will help melt the snow.

However, water may not be able to escape homes and businesses with flat roofs because of clogged or frozen drains.

Rainfall in combination with snowmelt will also create the potential for flooding and ice jams.

The following counties in Idaho and Washington are now under a Flood Watch:

Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, Latah, Nez Perce, Shoshone, Asotin, Garfield, Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens and Whitman.
