PULLMAN -- Washington State basketball players Xavier Thames and Anthony Brown are going to transfer before next season, according to Cougfan.com.
Brown, who starred at Shadle Park High School, was expected to transfer, but news of Thames moving on comes as a surprise.
When contacted by Cougfan.com, Thames would not confirm his decision to transfer. He only said that he "can't talk about it at this time." Instead, the website is citing two reliable sources who are close to the program.
Thames averaged 4.6 points and 1.5 rebounds per game last year as a freshman. He only started in four games, but appeared in 31 contests for the Cougars.
Washington State burned Brown's redshirt early in the season and decided to never use him again (he played just five minutes all season). It's assumed that he is transferring somewhere else to get more playing time.
At this point, it's not known where the two players are heading.
UPDATE 3/28 6:42pm: According to a new report on Cougfan.com, Washington State's Michael Harthun is also leaving the basketball program.
The website confirmed Harthun's decision to transfer with his dad on Sunday.
Several media outlets also talked to Brown and Thames directly on Sunday. Both officially confirmed that they are leaving WSU.
