PULLMAN, Wash. – Running back Aaron Baltazar has signed a financial aid agreement to join the Washington State football program next fall, head coach Mike Leach announced Wednesday.
Baltazar, 5-10, 215 lb, played at Boise State University last season as a freshman. In five games, the Chula Vista, Calif. native rushed for 234 yards and two touchdowns on 50 carries, caught five passes for 19 yards and returned one kickoff for 24 yards before suffering a season-ending knee injury. NCAA transfer rules require student-athletes to sit out one season after transferring from one FBS school to another. Baltazar will redshirt the 2014 season and then have three years to play three seasons for the Cougars.
Baltazar prepped at Eastlake High School and rushed for 1,855 yards and 23 touchdowns as a senior, earning first-team All-State, All-CIF San Diego and All-Metro Mesa League honors. He was a three-time first-team All-Mesa League selection in football and basketball. Out of high school, Baltazar was rated the nation’s 49th-best running back prospect and the No. 8 running back in the West by Scout.com.
