Seahawks sign top draft pick Jackson
04:42 PM PDT on Friday, July 25, 2008
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Seahawks top draft choice Lawrence Jackson has agreed to terms on an $11.25 million, five-year contract and is in training camp.
The deal includes a $6.1 million signing bonus, according to a person with knowledge of the contract who requested anonymity because the team had yet to announce the agreement.
"We got him done. We had every hope to get him in on time," agent Sean Howard said by telephone from his office in California, minutes after the defensive end and 28th overall pick from Southern California took the field with his new teammates Friday morning.
"It's a very good deal. Lawrence is very happy."
Jackson and tight end John Carlson both missed the first day of camp due to contract negotiations.
Carlson's negotiations might take a little longer. He knows how important he is to coach Mike Holmgren's offensive plans this year and is asking for more money.
