Zags beat Vols to win Old Spice title

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Gonzaga Bulldogs captured the Old Spice Classic championship Sunday evening, defeating #12 Tennessee, 83-74.

Highlights of Gonzaga's win

Five Bulldogs scored in double-figures, led by Steven Gray's 19 points. Gray came off the bench and made 4 of 6 three-pointers. He also grabbed four rebounds and had four assists.

Jeremy Pargo also filled out the stat sheet, finishing with 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds. He earned tournament MVP honors. Josh Heytvelt continued his solid play with 15 points on 5 of 6 shooting.

The Zags opened up an 18 point lead with about six minutes left in the game. The Vols answered with a run of their own, closing to within six points on Cameron Tatum's three-pointer with just over a minute left.

Micah Downs hit 5 of 6 free throws and Pargo had a fast-break dunk to help the Bulldogs hold on.

This was the second meeting between these two programs in the past two seasons. Last year, The Volunteers defeated GU at the Battle in Seattle. They'll play once more this season, facing off in Knoxville January 7th.

The Bulldogs entered the game ranked #9 in the country and improved to 5-0 with the win.

Gonzaga travels to Indianapolis next weekend to play the Indiana Hoosiers before returning to Eastern Washington to battle WSU on December 10th.
