WSU coach Mike Leach offers hilarious advice to reporter getting married

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University head football coach Mike Leach has loads of great advice.

In fact, one local reporter about to get married asked him for any marriage tips just a few days before his nuptials and the resulting answer was certainly more than the reporter had bargained for.

“Well, it’s a little late, you should have come to me sooner,” Leach told the reporter. “My advice would be you have to stay out of the way.”

He said you should plan on the women involved in the nuptials “losing their minds”

“I’m just telling you, when it comes to marriages, women lose their mind,” Leach said. “Your fiancé is going to lose her mind. Your mom is going to lose her mind.”

Leach then proceeded to narrate a conversation that just about anyone who has planned a wedding has likely had with their partner.

“They’re going to barrage you with constant questions like ‘what should we wear?’ Of course my answer was ‘I don’t care.’ And then ‘What color should the invitations be?’ ‘I don’t care,’” he said. “But of course, ‘I don’t care’ is not satisfactory at all. So you’re going to get caught in a catch 22.”

He went on to describe fighting over possible desserts and invitation colors.

“It’s just going to go back and forth and they’re going to play keep away from you,” Leach told the future husband. “So what you need to do is work late hours…be very nice and supportive…and there’s no answer you can give that’s going to be satisfactory or correct.”

Leach advised going into the back room and reading a lot of books, and making sure the groomsmen knew exactly what they were doing.

“In the end, you’ll wish you eloped but nevertheless you need to find excuses that they’ll buy to be as far out of harms way as you possibly can,” he advised. “Take comfort in knowing that once the ceremony is over, life will get progressively better from there, even though there’s some adjustment.”

Recently, Leach has also offered advice on playing flag football with the family this Thanksgiving as well. You can read more about that here
