COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Positive and inspirational stories continue to come out of Sunday’s Ironman triathlon in Coeur d’Alene.

Some groups did it to raise money for cancer research. Other competitors took on Ironman to overcome drug habits. Triathlete Derek Garcia of Post Falls trained while battling cancer this year.

He finished his third Ironman Coeur d’Alene in just over nine hours after taking under an hour to swim 2.4 miles, less than five hours to ride 112 miles on his bicycle and running the 26.2-mile marathon in just under three and a half hours.

Garcia had a lot to celebrate: Sunday was his first Ironman as a professional and his cancer is in the clear.
