SPOKANE -- It was an ordinary baseball game until the fifth inning. Spokane had jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and then things got pretty crazy.

The benches cleared during the fifth inning of Wednesday night's game between the Indians and Canadians.
Matt West came up with one man on and two outs in the fifth. Vancouver's Hector Garcia threw the first and second pitches behind West, and plunked him with the third. The benches cleared, but cooler heads prevailed and no one was ejected.
Spokane's Tim Murphy, who had just entered the game in relief, came inside with a fastball to Vancouver's first batter in the following frame. Home plate umpire Brett Terry decided he'd seen enough and kicked Murphy out of the game. Indians manager Tim Hulett was also booted for arguing with Terry.
The game finally returned to normal and Spokane prevailed, 8-3.
Mike Bianucci and Doug Hogan homered for the Indians.
There could be more fireworks when the teams play again tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 6:30pm at Avista Stadium.
