COEUR D'ALENE -- More than 2,000 Ironman athletes will swim, cycle, and run a total of 140 miles Sunday morning.
In two days the chilly waters of Lake Coeur d'Alene will serve as the launching pad for Ironman 2011. Many of the competitors are excited to take part in the big event.
"I'm actually looking forward to it. I know it's going to be chilly but it's one of those challenges I'm excited for," said Professional Ironman Craig Alexander.
Alexander will be in the mix with hundreds of amateurs like Frank Sanchez.
"I think this is the one thing that's unique about our sport is the amateurs and professionals are on the start line the same day in the same conditions," said Sanchez.
Before the race, the pro's field questions from their fans and amateur competitors. They share insight into their world and what it takes to become an Ironman or Ironwoman like Caitlin Snow.
"It's great being able to get back to the athletes, because their support is what gets us through on race day," said Snow.
The 140-mile gauntlet will pit professionals against amateurs. The pro's compete for $25,000 in prize money and points for the October championships. Amateurs like Frank will be there for pride.
