COEUR D'ALENE -- The endurance it takes to finish an Ironman triathlon is something few of us have in us. Most participants are competing not only against the clock but father time as well.
Thousands of supporting fans made it to downtown Coeur d'Alene to cheer on the athletes. One is also cheering for his 67 year old mother who entered into the race.
Most of the competitors are under 40. But that is not stopping Katie Peckham. She is the only one her age in her division. Her son is cheering her on and says he is loving the Ironman experience.
"It's quite the experience for one. Second, I can actually see what she goes through for all the training. To actually see her participate with everyone else is a huge inspiration. Tell's me I gotta get off the couch myself a little bit," said Katie's son Shane.
Shane says this will be his mother's first full triathlon. She has been training for months.
