COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho.— Hundreds of men and women woke up bright and early for the annual Ironman competition in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Officials estimated 2,400 athletes are competing in this year's event.
Professional athletes started their race at 6:25 A.M. while the other competitors kicked off the race at 7 A.M. with the swimming course.
Racers must have the swimming portion of the race complete by 9:20 A.M. before moving on to the bike course. The first lap of the bike course must be complete by 1:30 P.M. and then it is on to the running.
The first lap of the running course has to be completed by 9 P.M. The race officially ends at midnight.
