COEUR D’ALENE, Wash. – Thousand of people came to Coeur d’Alene over the weekend for Ironman.

Besides competing or cheering on loved ones, they brought some big bucks to area businesses.

Coeur d’Alene Mayor Sandi Bloem says Ironman brought in about $7 million dollars, but in reality it’s a lot more than that. Participants and fans stay for several days and come back again.

“That money turns over five to seven times, so it is pretty substantial,” Bloem said. “Ironman has treated this community very well.

Cool, damp weather has hurt tourism so far this year.

“I think when we finally get summer going, you can see with a good summer day [tourists] are spending money,” Bloem said.
