SPOKANE, Wash. -- Nicolas Petan earned an assist on all three Portland goals and the Winterhawks ousted the Chiefs 3-1 on Saturday night at the Spokane Arena in front of 7,269 fans on Washington National Guard Buck Night.
Nearly 58 minutes passed until the Chiefs finally found the back of the net. Defenseman Cole Wedman was passed the puck on the right circle for a quick slapshot that put Spokane on the board, preventing the team from being shutout for the first time at home this season. Dominic Zwerger and Jackson Playfair were both credited with their first assists of the season; Zwergers was the first of his career. It was Wedman’s second goal.
Despite allowing three goals, Eric Williams made multiple outstanding saves while manning the net. In the third period, Portland center Adam Rossignol stole the puck and had a wide-open breakway against Williams, but the 20-year-old goalie from Langley, B.C., made a terrific glove save to prevent further damage.
The Spokane Chiefs will head on the road for three games beginning with a Wednesday, November 6th showdown with the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Chiefs will return home Friday, November 15th to play host to the Prince George Cougars. Puck drops at 7:05 PM.
