SPOKANE -- The Western Hockey League named Spokane Chiefs defenseman Brenden Kichton as the Western Conference Defenseman of the Year on Thursday.
Kichton becomes the first Chiefs player to ever be named the Western Conference Defenseman of the Year. He's now a finalist for the Del Wilson Trophy as the WHL's Defenseman of the Year along with Alex Petrovic of the Edmonton Oil Kings, who represents the Eastern Conference.
Kichton's 74 points led all WHL defenseman as he was the only blueliner in the league to lead their team in scoring. The 19-year-old four-year veteran had 17 goals, 57 assists and finished the regular season +25.
The WHL announces all league awards in Calgary on May 2nd.
