PRINCE GEORGE -- The Spokane Chiefs saw their three-game winning streak snapped as Prince George's Cody Carlson scored a power play goal just 18 seconds into overtime to give Prince George a 4-3 overtime win on Saturday night.
The Chiefs took a 1-0 lead on Mitch Holmberg's power play goal off a 5-on-3 5:45 into the first period. Holmberg's 26th goal of the season was assisted by Brenden Kichton and Blake Gal. It was Spokane's first power play goal since February 18th. Prince George would counter with a power play goal midway through the first to tie the game at one after the first period.
Spokane would regain the lead on Dominick Uher's team leading 29th goal of the year just 51 seconds into the second period. Todd Fiddler and Marek Kalus picked up the assists. The Cougars would score two goals in less than three minutes midway through the period to take a 3-2 lead, but Spokane's Corey Baldwin would score his 6th goal of the year at 12:28 to even the game back up at three apiece. Kichton and Uher picked up the helpers.
Neither team scored in the third, but Spokane committed a too many men on the ice minor penalty with just 15 seconds left in regulation to set up Carlson's overtime game winner. Prince George defeated Spokane in three of four games this season. Spokane will return home to open a three-game homestand Wednesday night against the Kelowna Rockets.
