SPOKANE -- The Spokane Chiefs fell to the Kelowna Rockets in a 3-2 shootout loss at Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday night. Dominik Uher scored both goals for the Chiefs putting his season total at 31.
Uher’s first of the game came at 10:52 of the first getting set up net front by blue liner Brenden Kichton. The Chiefs outshot the Rockets 12-3 in the first.
Charter Rigby had the lone goal of the second period, scoring on the power play for the Rockets with a long snap shot to make it 1-1 at 9:04 of the second.
Uher and Kichton hooked up for the second time of the evening on the power play at 2:11 of the third. With the assist Kichton is now tied with Jared Spurgeon for fourth on the Chiefs all-time assist list for defensemen with 133.
The Rockets special teams came alive at 6:08 of the third, with Zach Franko beating goaltender Mac Engel on the power play.
Overtime settled nothing for the two teams and the game was settled in a shootout. Mitch Holmberg scored for Spokane while Brett Lyon and Myles Bell found the back of the net for Kelowna.
The Chiefs outshot the Rockets 43-25 while going 1-5 on the power play and 1-3 on the penalty kill.
Spokane’s next home game comes on Friday against the Tri-City Americans.
