SPOKANE – Mitch Holmberg scored the 146th goal of his career in the first period, pushing him into a first-place tie with Pat Falloon as the Chiefs’ all-time leading goal scorer as Spokane lost to Everett at the Arena. The 4-2 loss was the first loss to Everett in Spokane since 2010, breaking an 18-game streak.
Holmberg’s goal was his 61st of the season and put Spokane up early with a 2-1 lead. The right wing is the third WHL player to score 60 goals in one season since the 2000-01 campaign. He is only the fifth Spokane player to ever accomplish the feat.

The Chiefs power play performed well on the evening, as Spokane scored both of its goals with the one-man advantage; they had three total chances. Spokane’s penalty kill stopped Everett on two of their four chances. The third period was clean for the most part, with Holmberg being the only player whistled for a penalty – slashing at the 18:55 mark while the Spokane net was empty.

Spokane will play host to rival Tri-City Americans this Friday, March 14th, in their regular season home finale. The Chiefs  have a 7-2-0-1 record against the Ams this season. Tune into 1510 KGA to listen to play-by-play from Mike Boyle
