Eric Williams had 29 saves, and Todd Fiddler notched the only goal of the game as the Spokane Chiefs opened the second half of the Western Hockey League season with a 1-0 win over the Kootenay Ice Friday night in Cranbrook, B.C. It was Williams second shutout win of the season as the Chiefs snapped a two game losing streak.

Williams turned aside 12 Ice shots in the first period as the two teams were scoreless after one. Fiddler would steal a puck in the waning minutes of the second and snap his team leading 25th goal of the year past Kootenay goalie Mackenzie Skapski at 18:17 of the period to give the Chiefs the only goal of the game. Spokane would turn aside a 1:11 5 on 3 Kootenay power play early in the third period, as Williams had 10 of his 29 saves in the period to preserve the shutout.

Spokane was outshot 29-25 in the game, going 0-3 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill. The two teams will meet again Saturday night in the Spokane Arena at 7:05pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA starting with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.
