CALGARY -- The Western Hockey League announced on Tuesday that Spokane Chiefs goalie Mac Engle is the WHL Goaltender of the Month for February.
The 17 year-old rookie posted a 9-2-0-0 record through February with two shutouts, maintaining a 1.83 goals-against average and .930 save percentage. He appeared in all 13 games for the Chiefs through the month which included seven key victories over WHL U.S. Division rivals.
Engel's strong performance through February helped him to a second ranking among all WHL goaltenders with 2.41 goals-against average. The Chiefs have won eight of their last ten games and currently sit third in the WHL Western Conference with a 40-17-4-2 record for 86 points, just one back of the conference leading Portland Winterhawks.
Engel, a native of Red Deer, Alberta, is playing in his rookie season with the Chiefs who listed him back in November 2009. He has appeared in 29 games this season posting an 11-7-2-1 record with three shutouts.
