SPOKANE -- The Spokane Chiefs hit the ice for practice on Thursday, but it was much different than any practice they've had this season.
Spokane worked out on the outdoor rink at Avista Stadium in preparation for this weekend's Outdoor Hockey Classic against the Kootenay Ice.
The Outdoor Hockey Classic will be the first game played outside in Western Hockey League history. The game is set to start at 1pm on Saturday.
There are still tickets available, but the Chiefs say there are only about 200-300 seats left. The team expects a sellout this weekend.
You can't ask for a better matchup in the WHL. Spokane is just two points behind Portland for first place in the U.S. Divison, while Kootenay currently sits atop the Central Division. The two teams actually face-off in Cranbrook on Friday, leading up to Saturday's showdown.
We're just as excited as everyone else for the Outdoor Hockey Classic. We'll have full coverage of the big game on KREM 2 News and KREM.com.
