The Spokane Chiefs saw their 2 game road winning streak come to an end Saturday night as Tri City used a 2 goal first period on their way to a 4-1 win over the Chiefs in the annual New Year's Eve game between the two teams in Kennewick.
Tri City got on the board just 6:15 into the contest on a Michael Plutnar rebound goal. The Americans would extend the lead on a Patrick Holland shorthanded goal at 11:38. Spokane's Marek Kalus would take a Mitch Holmberg pass in the slot and bang home his 10th goal of the year at 19:29 to bring the Chiefs within 2-1 after one.
The Americans would start the second period on a 5-3 power play after the Chiefs were whistled for 2 slashing penalties in the final 30 seconds of the first. Tri City's Jordan Messier would score 1:23 into the period for the only goal of the second to give Tri City a 3-1 lead after two periods.
In the third, Justin Feser scored unassisted at 10:31 to cap the scoring. Tri City outshot Spokane 20-17 in the contest. Eric Williams made 16 saves in his first net in goal for Spokane.
Spokane will finish off their 4 game road trip Wednesday night when they visit the Kelowna Rockets for the second time in 8 days. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA beginning at 6:30pm with the puck drop at 7pm.
