The Spokane Chiefs closed out their 2011-2012 regular season with a 3-2 win over the Tri City Americans. Spokane finishes the season 38-25-5-4 and with 85 points to end the year 3rd in the U.S. Division and 5th in the Western Conference.
The Chiefs Mitch Holmberg put Spokane up 1-0 just 1:47 into the game with his 27th goal of the season. Reid Gow and Liam Stewart got the assists. Tri Cities Patrick Holland would tie the game with a power play goal at 4:51. Spokane would regain the lead on Brenden Kichton's 17th goal of the year at 13 minutes of the first. Kichton, who led all WHL defensemen with 74 points, would have his goal assisted by Marek Kalus and Mike Aviani as Spokane led 2-1 after one.
Tri City would tie the game on a Jesse Mychan goal midway through the second period. Spokane would secure the game winner at 8:31 of the third period on a Dylan Walchuk power play goal. Walchuk's 10th goal of the season was assisted by Gow and Kichton. Spokane went 1-3 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill.
Spokane is back in action on Friday when they travel to Vancouver to open their first round playoff series with the Giants.
