CALGARY -- The Spokane Chiefs fell short in their chance for their 2nd road win of the season,as the Calgary Hitmen beat the Chiefs 3-2 in overtime Friday night at the Saddledome in Calgary.
The Hitmen's Victor Rask scored at 8:16 of the first period to give the Hitmen a 1-0 lead after one. Calgary would extend the lead to 2-0 after two after an Alex Gogolev goal at 13:28 of the period.
Spokane had just 9 shots in the first two periods, but would get on the board on a Brenden Kichton power play goal just 1:06 into the third to bring Spokane within 2-1. Kichton's 5th goal of the season was assisted by Steve Kuhn and Mitch Holmberg. Captain Darren Kramer would tie the game at 2 with a backhander at 3:35 from Holmberg and Mike Aviani, as the Chiefs outshot the Hitmen 12-9 in the third.
In overtime, Rask scored his second of the night on a backhander at 2:36 of overtime to give the Hitmen the win. Calgary outshot Spokane 30-21 in the game. Luke Lee-Knight had 27 saves in net for Spokane. The Chiefs continue the road trip Saturday night in Medicine Hat. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA beginning at 6pm with the puck drop at 6:30pm.
