SPOKANE -- The Great Northern League championship hinged on Thursday night's game between West Valley and Cheney -- and the game didn't disappoint.
The Eagles outlasted the Blackhawks 27-21 in an overtime thriller.
The West Valley victory gives the Eagles a share of the GNL championship and the league's two-seed, so they host East Valley of Yakima in a state play-in game on Tuesday.
As for Cheney, they're the three-seed and they have to play on the road Tuesday against Ellensburg.
The outcome also gives Deer Park a share of the league crown. The Stags beat Medical Lake 42-21 in a non-league contest on Thursday. They now get the top-seed out of the GNL, which means they punch their ticket to state. They open the 2A tournament on Saturday against winner of the play-in between Ellensburg and Cheney.
In other high school action, Colton beat Garfield-Palouse 52-48 to clinch a share of the Southeast 1B championship. They earn the three-seed out of the league thanks to a preseason drawing.
