SPOKANE -- The Ferris High School and North Central High School boys cross country teams are the best in the Greater Spokane League. They are also nationally recognized.
The Saxons and Indians went head-to-head at Audobon Park on Wednesday evening; the winner would take home the GSL championship. The race was as great as expected. Ferris slipped past North Central, 26-29 (the lower score wins in cross country). That means the Saxons are league champions. NC's Ben Johnston crossed the finish line with the best individual time, finishing the course in 15:12. As expected, the Shadle Park girls team, which is also nationally ranked, ran away with the competition. They easily beat Ferris, North Central, and East Valley. Shadle Park's Andrea Weitz was the top individual finisher in the girls race. She finished in a time of 18:02. NC's Katie Knight was a close second, recording an 18:15 finish.
