TACOMA -- Almira/Coulee-Hartline came up just short in their search for the 1B state championship, falling 36-28 to Neah Bay in the title game on Friday in Tacoma.
It was an uncharacteristically low-scoring first half for the Warriors. The game was only tied 8-8 at halftime. The two teams then started lighting up the scoreboard after the break. They traded touchdowns until ACH fell behind in the third quarter, and couldn't catch up after that.
For Neah Bay, it's their first ever state championship. The Warriors have won two titles in the past (the last championship happening in 2007), but they finish as the runners-up this season. They finish the year 13-1.
State championships continue for area teams on Saturday in Tacoma. Waitsburg-Prescott faces Morton/White Pass for the 2B title at 4pm.
