SPOKANE -- The Gonzaga women's basketball team is bracing for a cross country trek to play in the Sweet 16.
The Bulldogs travel to Kingston, Rhode Island, on Friday. The team is scheduled to leave McCarthey Athletic Center at 9:30am. They then hop on a flight to the East Coast.
Rhode Island is easily the longest road trip of the season for the Zags (located more than 2,700 miles away). Up until now, the farthest east the Bulldogs had to travel was Provo, Utah.
This is also the longest trek Gonzaga has made for the NCAA Tournament. The Zags have played in Palo Alto and Sacramento, California, Seattle and Spokane in the past for the Big Dance.
The Bulldogs play Kentucky on Sunday for a trip to the Elite Eight. The Zags and Wildcats tip-off at 3:30pm PT on ESPN2. It's the first ever meeting between the two teams.
