SPOKANE -- The Gonzaga baseball team trailed Santa Clara late in Friday night's series opener at Washington Trust Field, but the Bulldogs rallied for a 4-2 win.

Trailing 2-1 in the sixth inning, Clayton Eslick evened the game with one swing of the bat. He hit a solo home run to right field to tie the game at 2-2.

The game stayed knotted up until the eighth. That's when Steven Halcomb delivered on a run scoring single to center. Brock Slavin came to the plate next, and drove in Andy Hunter to give Gonzaga the 4-2 lead.

Zach Abbruzza finished off the Broncos in the ninth, striking out two for the save. University High School product Andy Olson started for the Bulldogs, allowing just two runs over 6.1 innings.

The Zags and Broncos play again on Saturday at 3pm, and then wrap up their series on Sunday at 1pm.
