SPOKANE -- Two years after paying a visit to Gonzaga, Michigan State could be making a return trip to Spokane, to pay tribute to a coaching legend with ties in Spokane and beyond.
According to the Detroit Free Press a four-team event is in the works to honor former West Valley head coach Jud Heathcote. Nothing is set in stone, but the teams involved would be GU, Michigan State, Washington State and Montana. Heathcote coached the Griz before moving on to MSU. He was an assistant in Pullman, and the Spokane resident is friends with Mark Few.
The tentative date is December 7th, and the games would take place in the Spokane Arena. The Spartans would take on Gonzaga, with the Cougs facing Montana.
The programs also hope to hold a separate even to honor the 85-year-old prior to gameday.
