SPOKANE -- Are they in the NCAA Tournament or are they out? That's the big question surrounding the Gonzaga women's basketball team.
The Bulldogs won the West Coast Conference regular season championship outright, but they lost in the conference tournament title game to BYU. That means the Cougars earned the automatic bid to the Big Dance, while the Zags now sit on the bubble.
Gonzaga learns its fate tonight during ESPN's Selection Special. Just like the team, you can watch that program live starting at 4pm.
Even though they don't have the automatic berth, the Bulldogs are more than likely in the NCAA Tournament. The Zags are 26-5, ranked No. 23 in the country. They have three wins against Top 50 teams this season, and have the 20th best RPI in the nation. That should all equal an at-large berth for GU.
If Gonzaga does earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament, they will play the first two rounds in Spokane. The Bulldogs were selected as a host last season, so they get an automatic spot in their hometown if selected.
If the Zags aren't picked, they earned an automatic bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament by winning the regular season conference title.
We'll have full coverage of the Selection Special tonight on KREM 2 News. That includes live interviews with the team during the 5pm and 6pm shows, so stay tuned for all the latest!
