PITTSBURGH—The Gonzaga men’s basketball team takes on West Virginia today in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Mountaineers is scheduled for 4:20 PT in Pittsburgh at the CONSOL Energy Center, home of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. You can watch the game live on TNT.
Gonzaga heads into the tournament as the 7-seed, while West Virginia is the 10-seed. Despite the higher seed, the Bulldogs are favored to only win by a point.
It's going to be a clash of styles. Gonzaga plays a West Coast finesse style of basketball. Meanwhile, West Virginia takes the Big East approach; physical and hard-nosed.
The Mountaineers come into the tournament with a 19-13 overall record, but they lost eight of their last 12 games. Gonzaga is 26-5 overall, coming off a loss in the West Coast Conference Tournament championship.
West Virginia University is located only 75 miles from the Pittsburgh, so it will be a home game type atmosphere for the Mountaineers. Gonzaga players say they aren’t too concerned with the home-court advantage. They say as long as they stick together on the court, they will be fine.
