SPOKANE—The Gonzaga women’s basketball team is thrilled to be playing on their home floor in the NCAA Tournament, but Head Coach Kelly Graves says it does put some pressure on his team.
The 11 seeded Bulldogs went to work Friday afternoon preparing for their matchup against 6th seeded Rutgers. Graves says the Purple Knights play harder than any other team he’s ever seen.
Depending on how things play out this game could mark the last appearance at McCarthey for a senior class that’s made it to four straight NCAA Tournaments.
You can’t talk Rutgers without mentioning their hall of fame head coach C. Vivian Stringer. Stringer is the 2nd winningest active coach and has won 420 more games than Kelly Graves has coached.
Stringer’s resume includes visits to the Final Four with three different programs.
Stringer was complimentary of the Zags, comparing their style of play to that of Big East rival UConn.
