SPOKANE--The Gonzaga women got off to a hot start and never looked back as they defeated the 6th seeded Rutgers Scarlet Knights 86-73 to advance to the second round of the women’s NCAA Tournament.

Kayla Standish had 23 points and 7 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs who will face Miami.  That game will tip-off at 6:40p.m. at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Playing before a big crowd on its home floor, Gonzaga (27-5) mostly handled Rutgers' press and used a 3-point barrage in the second half to hold off the Scarlet Knights' rallies. Haiden Palmer added 21 points for Gonzaga.

Gonzaga, making the field with an at-large bid for the first time, took control early and held off every Rutgers charge.

Erica Wheeler had 28 point for Rutgers, who let the Bulldogs get off to a 13-4 run to start the game and never really seemed to get comfortable after that.
