SPOKANE, Wash.--A former Gonzaga University basketball player is putting on a new type of a uniform.

Spokane Police Department leaders confirmed that former GU point guard Winston Brooks is becoming a police officer. On Monday, SPD leaders said that Brooks had signed a conditional offer to work for them.  Plans call for Brooks to be sworn in on November 11th, 2013.

Brooks, 34, currently works for the Coeur d’Alene Police Department according to SPD officials.

He spent two years as the point guard for Gonzaga. He arrived at Gonzaga in 2000 after attending Howard College (TX) and North Idaho College.

The Virginia native came off the bench in 13 of the first 14 games of the 2001-2002 season with Gonzaga before fracturing his wrist. He returned later in the season and was cleared to play in the NCAA Tournament First Round, but did not see action.
