SPOKANE -- Two-and-a-half months after announcing his departure from the Gonzaga men's basketball team, freshman point guard GJ Vilarino will take his services to Appalachian State University.
KREM 2 Sports confirmed this with GJ's father, Gerardo by phone Sunday night.
He stated the mountaineers would be the best fit for his son in terms of immediate playing time. He also stated GJ and first-year head coach Jason Capel had great rapport. Capel is the nation's youngest NCAA Division I head coach at 30 years old.
In 25 games with the Bulldogs, Vilarino averaged 2.3 points per game in just under eight minutes per contest.
According to NCAA transfer regulations, Vilarino will have to sit out the 2010-2011 season.
