TULSA -- Former Gonzaga basketball star Vivian Frieson was released by the Tulsa Shock on Wednesday.
Frieson, a third-round selection in last month's WNBA Draft, was one of two rookies released by the team. Apparently, the Shock needed to make room for veterans who are reporting to camp on Thursday.
"At this point, the veterans are a little ahead of the players coming out of college," Tulsa head coach Nolan Richardson told reporters. "They could make a team. It's just sad that the numbers game got them."
Frieson was one of two former Gonzaga players trying to make it in the pros. Heather Bowman, who also starred at Lewis & Clark High School, is still in camp with the Seattle Storm.
