SPOKANE -- The Gonzaga men's basketball team doesn't hesitate when you ask how big this week is for them. You get a quick "huge" as the answer from every player.
The Bulldogs currently sit 2.5 games behind St. Mary's for first place in the West Coast Conference with six league games remaining. That's "huge," because the Zags and Gaels go head-to-head tonight at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
St. Mary's (22-2) is No. 16 in this week's Associated Press Top 25. They've won 12 straight games, including a 83-62 drubbing of Gonzaga in their first meeting on January 12th.
Gonzaga (18-4) is now unranked after last Thursday's loss to BYU. If the Bulldogs win tonight, they'll get one step closer to their 12th straight conference championship. If the Zags lose to the Gaels, they'll likely fall into a third place tie in the WCC with BYU and Loyola Marymount. Gonzaga would then face LMU on Saturday (5pm) in Spokane.
If you can't make it to McCarthey Athletic Center tonight, you can watch the game live on ESPN2 at 8pm. We'll also have full coverage of the showdown, including postgame reaction, on KREM 2 News and KREM.com.
