30 second game guide

Bring’em Out: Gonzaga Bulldogs 20-9 (10-3 WCC) v. San Diego Toreros 6-22 (2-11 WCC) at the Jenny Craig Pavilion at 6 p.m.

Watch for: The Zags to lock up at least a share of their 11th consecutive WCC regular season title. They’ve come this far, and I don’t think such a thing as a “trap game” exists in this conference anymore. Seven straight victories in the WCC, including Thursday night’s overtime thriller over the Gaels in Moraga, and Gonzaga deserves to be in the driver’s seat once again. Don’t count on the Toreros messing with GU’s destiny tonight.

Fear: Sam Dower. Goodness sake, this freshman can ball! If Dower doesn’t get you excited about the Bulldogs’ future, I don’t know who/what will. A spark plug off the bench for over three weeks now, Sam has proven he can hit big hoops, and more importantly, knock down free throws when the game is on the line (see Saint Mary’s play-by-play). He’s fun to watch and will only continue to get better with more minutes.

Respect: The opponent. At this point, the scariest regular season games are over with, however, the Gaels found out the hard way what it’s like to under-estimate San Diego on its own court (USD took down SMC, 74-66 last week). Billy Grier’s team has been playing better as of late, but better is still poor when its matched up to the Zags. Gonzaga needs to throttle this team and get ready for senior night on Monday vs. CSU Bakersfield.

Random Stuff: Gonzaga has a 26-game winning streak over San Diego in regular season play, including an 86-53 blowout in the Kennel in late January.
