ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Gonzaga University center Kelly Olynyk is among the 14 finalists for the 2013 Oscar Robertson National Player of the Year Trophy presented by Aflac and selected by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
The recipient will be announced Friday, April 5 in Atlanta at a 6:15 a.m. PT press conference and then formally presented their awards at the Devon Energy College Basketball Awards on Monday, April 15, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Henry Iba Coach of the Year Award will also be presented at the gala to be held annually the Monday following the NCAA Men's Final Four.
Olynyk is averaging 17.7 ppg and 7.0 rpg for the Bulldogs, who wrapped up a 16-0 West Coast Conference season Saturday and take a 29-2 record into the WCC Tournament later this week.
The native of Kamloops, British Columbia, was second in field goal percentage at 66.2 percent in the latest NCAA statistics through games of last Thursday. New statistical rankings will be released Monday, as will the latest Associated Press and USA Today polls with many of the so-called experts believing the Bulldogs will receive their inaugural No. 1 ranking in program history after being ranked second in both polls last week. No. 1 Indiana University split its games this past week, as did No. 3 Duke University.
