ORLANDO, Fla. – Former Gonzaga University center Kelly Olynyk made his pro debut with the Boston Celtics in the 2013 Orlando Summer League Sunday, connecting on seven of his first eight shots on his way to a game-high 25 points as the Celtics lost 95-88 to the Orlando Magic.
Olynyk played 26 minutes, connecting on 9-of-12 shots from the field, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, and made all five of his free throw attempts. He also grabbed 7 rebounds and had 2 assists and 2 steals to help offset 5 turnovers.
In another game involving a former Bulldog, Micah Downs scored his lone two points on a breakaway dunk but his Indiana Pacers fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder 76-68. Downs, who played in the NBA Developmental League last season, went 1-for-3 from the field, grabbed a pair of rebounds and had an assist in nine minutes off the bench.
Steven Gray, another former Bulldog who was expected to be with the Pacers in the Summer League, was released by the club Friday.
The Orlando Summer League runs until Friday. The Las Vegas Summer League begins Friday and runs through July 22.
